Fang Liu

Dr. Liu is currently a Professor in the Department of Psychiatry, University of Toronto, and her lab is located at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH), where she is a senior scientist and the head of the Molecular Neuroscience laboratory. Dr. Liu obtained her MD from Shanghai Medical University in China, and practiced as a pediatrician before immigrating to Canada. She obtained her MSc and Ph.D from the Institute of Medical Sciences, University of Toronto. Dr. Liu joined the faculty of the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Toronto in 2001 and was promoted to full professor in 2011. Research in Dr. Liu's molecular neuroscience program has focused on identification of novel diagnostic biomarkers as well as novel targets for the development of protein peptide or small molecule therapeutics for the treatment of psychiatric diseases. Her research has led to a number of highly novel and internationally-recognized discoveries (e.g. Liu et al., Nature 2000; Lee et al., Cell 2002; Pei et al., Nature Medicine 2010; Su et al., Neuron 2014) that are being translated into new drugs for treating neuropsychiatric disease such as depression, schizophrenia, drug addiction, multiple sclerosis, PTSD etc.
